The Xperia 1 VIII also comes with new full-stage stereo speakers, tuned together with Sony Pictures and Sony Music, which are clearer and louder than before. The battery and charging specifications remain the same, but Sony claims the phone will last an hour longer thanks to some optimizations under the hood. The device is powered by the latest Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, with up to 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage, although only the online-only gold finish offers this storage capacity. The phone starts from £1,399 for the standard model with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, and goes up to £1,849 for the 16GB/1TB model. The Xperia 1 VIII is available to order now in Europe and Asia, but there are no plans for a North American launch. Personally, I think Sony has made a bold move with the Xperia 1 VIII, and it's a refreshing change to see the company pushing the boundaries of design and innovation. However, the lack of a North American launch and the limited OS and security updates are a bit concerning.
